Title: Broccoli

Hi

Does anyone knwo whem to harvest brocolli. I noticed in the certain of one my my plants a small head of brocolli and from what i have read you cant let them flower.  thought i would get more than 1 sprig from a plant though.

If your broccoli is green its proably calabrese and should grow a large centre head and is usually ready end of August / September. keppan eye onthe main head cut it just before it flowers then small florets will appear on the sides cut in the pan on the plate. very tasty.

if it is calabrese then it should be ready now and onwards until the frosts - with or without a drink  ;D

Ours all got eaten when the horses did a midnight raid  :'(

They were doing well up until that point too.

Ah well, another lesson learnt, never, ever put a gate from allotment to paddock cos the equine b***ers are crafty and managed to push the gateposts out slightly so the gate would open!!!!!
