Title: Plums: wind catastrophe
Post by: greyhound on August 03, 2006, 20:25:30
My trees are laden with plums this year, after none last year.

The wind has brought down a sizeable branch from the top of one of the trees.  What are the chances of the plums on the fallen branch ripening, do you think?

Be a bonus if they did, cos I'd never have been able to reach it anyway!

Don't worry about whether they are ripe, make jam with them it's better if they are not quite ripe!  ;D

as always it will depend on the variety - if an early ripening variety, say late August, you might get away with it, bring them in like unripe tomatoes and see what happens

Fraid I don't know the variety, they're inherited, but they are a smallish golden plum.  Still totally green now though.

I don't do jam, I suppose I could try chutney .... they make a terrific chutney when ripe.  Works with tomatoes, doesn't it.
