Kenkew, only just read your tip about the ironing board (under "Different Tools"). What a brilliant idea - I'm always moaning about backache when I've been potting up in the greenhouse because the staging is just that bit too low for comfort. I am going to cannabalise my ironing board this weekend and put a wider top on it. The adjustable height will be perfect. (It sees very little action anyway).
Ironing boards also make excellent windowsill extenders for those of us that don't have greenhouse. Just set up the ironing board by the window and cover with pots. It doesn't take up much room.
Another good idea! :D My husband thinks I am getting a bit silly with with this recycling lark, when I held our old hot water bottle up and asked him he could think of a use for it on the allotment! ;D busy_lizzie
Eh! Bizz..cut off the top, cut off the bottom, perfect sunken container for mint? Bet it's got a hanging hole in the bottom so could also be a drip feeder? Lots of use for a hot water bottle, maybe even as a hot water bottle hand warmer on a cold lottie morning?
....stuff it with old scraps and use it as a kneeler when weeding garden borders? Stops knee depressions in the lawn.
Fill it with compost. Cut slits in it . Plant up with strawberries or tumblimg tomaotoes and hang on a nice sunny fence
ooooooooooooooo like those hotty wotty botty ideas. Now I have my leccy blanket I have several redundent bottles. Like the kneeling one a lot. Our allotment is soooooo stoney it can be quite painful when kneeling to plant. Comfy kneeling here I come! ;D
Excellent ideas re: old hot water bottle will consider all of them. Might even have to hunt out others. You lot are so ingenious! Thanks! ;D busy_lizzie
So, the moral is; Don't chuck owt out until you mention what it is on here!
While we're talking of kneelers, I use a child's swimming float. They're made out of the same stuff that the commercial kneelers are and the one I have has lasted years.
