Title: Premature Baby Aub
Post by: amanda21 on August 03, 2006, 09:39:13
One of the branches on my aubergine in the back garden has snapped off and of course it was a branch with a fruit on!   :'(  The fruit is about the size of a small egg and is oly really purple on the bottom half.  I have pulled the leaves back to expose some more of the fruit and left it on a window sill but does anyone know if it will ripen off the plant or will it not keep.  Can I eat it so immature - the baby aubs I've seen in the shops are a little bigger and purple all over?

Do not think any harm eating it, they are suppose to get bitter as they get bigger. By the way, picked 2 decent size ones this morning, growing outside.

I was happily shocked to see three fruits appeared over the week I've been away - my kindly neighbour must have been lavishing love on them for me - felt even worse when the branch snapped off after all her hard work!

Baby aubergines are actually very nice to eat, really tender and sweet. Only problem I can think of is that it's small. It doesn't need to turn purple, so you can eat it now! ;D

I'm worried about my aubergines at the allotment in this weather. It's way too cold for their liking! :(
