Title: Decided to get an allotment
Post by: Plum on August 02, 2006, 20:23:14
When we moved down to the West country from London 20 months ago thought my garden would be enough. Hubby bought me a lovely greenhouse too. Not enough room , so got the form to go on the waiting list for an allotment. Filled in ready to post. I know there is a waiting list just don't know how long. Understand from the information I got will be able to keep chickens too. Decisions, only two of us to feed so perhaps will have room for some. Daugters and grandchildren always ready to eat any surplus. Just hope the waiting list isn't too long

you'll be surprised how much you eat when you grow your own, and you'll find just about anyone you know will appreciate some home grown fruit & veg.

good luck with your plot when you get it. keep us posted.

Hi Plum,
Just got my plot.. I only waited 3 months.  I know I'm not in your area, but it might give you some hope.  Don't expect a worked plot, and if you get a good one, it's a bonus.  Mine is full of weeds and the clay soil is rock hard.  We visited the site, went home and made a rough sketch.  All I can say is keep the vision in your head of what it will be!  Hope you get one soon, and good luck when you do!

You'll be glad you got one this is
my first year and I'm itching to
get on with the growing part of it  :)
I'm sure it wont be a long wait sometimes
its because they dont know if somebody has left or not.
Good luck   :D

Thanks for kind wishes. We are enjoying eating what our garden produces but will be glad of more room to grow veg. Already noticing the flavours we remember from our youth. Hubby already refuses to consider eating shop tomatoes when we have none.

Plum, allotments are habit-forming! You'll be boring your non-allotment friends to tears about the latest bargains from Wilko's on wire netting once you get one. We love it! Took us a year and now I can't imagine what we'd do without the space to grow pumpkins...

We must be really lucky as niece
has just applied for a 'lottie and
the form arrived with two vacant plots on it.
