Title: cross pollinated sungold tomatoes
Post by: Ricado on August 01, 2006, 19:32:39
A few of my sungold plants have beeen cross pollinated as the fruit has turned deep red instead of the normal gold colour.

Has anyone else had this ?  Id say the bees probably carried the pollen between plants.

This isn't right, cross pollination will not change the characteristics of the present generation of fruit, it's effects will not be seen until you try sowing the seeds produced inside that fruit

It is quite usual for an occasional Sungold plant to have red rather than orange fruits, in my experience.

Merry- what about cross pollination in peppers? I have read that pollination of sweet peppers with chili pepper pollen results in mildly spicy sweet peppers.... can anyone confirm this?
