Title: Shallots

Well Lifted my Shallots yesterday they were from Wilkinsons 99p a bag
and got 287 but i must say some are like medium sized Onions
so being my first year on the allotment is this about the norm.

Better than mine.. often get a great return the first year as the fallow period when the weeds die back in situ improves the soil fertility...

wow, i paid a fortune for 10 from b & q (hubby was annoying me), and they were rubbish, (which serves me right) well done on your bumper crop.

I got a bag of Red Sun from Wilko and got 101 shallots.
How did you grow them? 287 shallots is a huge yield! Well done! ;D

Wilko had them in February. There were lots of onion sets around the time too.
I wasn't impressed when I inspected the shallots though, some were mouldy... so I removed mouldy bits and planted them (I'm sure it's not recommended to do what I did ::)). The result was fantastic! The plants were really strong, I did hardly anything for them.

Yes some were quite big 2 & a half inches across but well pleased

One of these days I'll work out why I can grow shallots to monster proportions yet the onions in the *same* bed, well, don't...
