Title: lettuce question (seedlings)
Post by: Chris Graham on July 30, 2006, 22:27:40
I transplanted some seedlings into my garden plot but after a few days they fell over and didnt have the crispness to the leaves.

Any idea what would cause this?  I know they dont like to be moved but i have had a batch of 12 grow really well.

Its quite strange, the leaves seemd thin and silky to the touch (no residue on them tho).

Any ideas would be great.

Also can i still plant more at this time of year?

Lettuce seedlings do flop on transplanting but tender loving care with plenty of water should see them through and yes I am still sowing lettuce seed direct and will be for quite a while. ;)

Yes, you can sow right through the year - they will just grow slower in winter. Try a winter variety from September-ish, like Winter Density :)
