I've got a greenhouse full of pepppers up at the lottie - doing amazingly well, and producing fab fruits ;D ;D ;D
I've spotted a few spiders and such, but nothing to worry me - until I saw what looked like a red earwig. And then another one nearby. They don't seem to be an infestation, but I'm not sure if they are friend or foe.
I looked it up on the internet, and it seems that they are indeed earwigs (only seen black ones before), and they MIGHT be friend. They are supposed to be omnivores - eating other beasties and rotting vegetation mainly.
The evidence:-
- No sign of spider mite damage or greenfly
- Not much damage to leaves (bits here and there, but clould be anything having a nibble)
- No damage to fruits (that I've seen yet)
I'm inclined to leave them be, but wondered what other growers thought. Have you had any problems, or am I right in leaving them alone???
Thanks in advance,
Tricia :-*
You could try and catch them in inverted pots filled with straw and move them out of the greenhouse.
But from the description you give I don't think you will have much trouble says he fingers crossed ::)
