Title: Cutting back asparagus
Post by: philandjan on July 28, 2006, 10:58:08
This is the second year that our asparagus has been in and we're really looking forward to harvesting next year.

For now, when should we cut back the ferns? Or, should we let them die back naturally?

We've already given the roots a good feed, which has thrown up a few more spears.

Good question...I was just thinking the same. Strange that my "all male" root stock is covered with berries....must have had a sex change  ???

Let'em be till they go brown. Support them or they'll lie across everything else!

Then cut down to 2" & mulch. I would not have thought that fert at this stage was  necessary or wise.
