Title: A question about pumpkins
Post by: kippers garden on July 27, 2006, 09:47:23
I have some lovely big pumpkins growing through black plastic.  We had  quite a bit of rain last night...should i be raising the pumpkins off the ground so they don't go rotten...if so, what should i use?

Pumpkins seem fairly impervious to rain, but it might be worth you standing them on a couple of bricks. Bear in mind that a plastic pot which can be used for melons could well be crushed by the weight of the pumpkin as it grows.

Thanks Curry, i'll try the bricks.

Aren't pumpkins amazing...they seem to grow bigger every time you look at them!

Hi Kippers, Hi all,

I use slate roofing tiles I got from a skip.

I try to tilt them at an angle so they are as dry as possible under the squash.
