From my diary can identify Dinger as one recipient, Robert as another (when I get his address), but have also posted to a male in Tubridge Wells & female in Nottingham - no idea who you are, but when you get squashed jiffy bags they're from me. :)
Dinger, seems you were short-changed - your postage was less than the others, so if you want more bulbs after I've sent some off to Robert & if there are any over, let me know, eh?

I'd say now, just under the surface. You'll see quite a few have already sprouted, so nature's backing me up on this one?
I'll put them in when they arrive then. It'll be interesting to see how they come out.

Egyptian Onions
It's also known as tree onion, top onion, winter onion, or walking onions. This onion is not only edible, it's also ornamental!. At the top of the plant little "bulbs" form that can be used fresh, or they can be stored, much like garlic. Kids will love it for the quirky growth of the bulbs, and it's easy for them to help harvest and plant.
Egyptian onions are hardy l. They are called "walking" onions because of the unique way the bulbs clusters bend down from the weight of the bulbs as they grow, eventually touching the ground, and taking root. You can divide these clusters and plant as you would other onion sets in the autumn. They do have a rather strong taste, so you won't need many! You can also use the green stalks, which are edible, much like green onions or chives. If you allow the new bulbs to fall over and root, these will sprout for you to use. They are best before the bulbs start to form on the new stalk because they do become tough at that point. There will be enough to use for the stalks, the bulbs and some for planting.
In the early spring you'll be able to dig some of the onions up to use as bunching or green onions. .
Plant in soil that is well dug and amended with organic matter such as peat and compost. As mentioned, they are very hardy so should do well even in very cold climates.

When the onions set off on their travels next time....please could you send some in my direction? Don't mind waiting till next year....I have been interested in trying walking onions for ages....just never found any!
They arrived just now, thanks. It sounds as though they're a shallot equivalent for earlier in the season.

Don't have anywhere ready where I could put them at the mo', but if you have any spare come autumn or next year, I might scrounge some if that's OK. :)
Checked the garden & my last lot will go to Clang, the first on this list. Pity that KT,Creck&Troje didn't see the first post about them :( - I'd have divvied up the harvest a bit differently so that you all could have had some.
But with so many of us growing them next year there'll be lots on offer, I'm sure. :)
