Was reminded today about Jal Jeera â€" a spicy Indian 'lemonade' with a sweet/sour/astringent bite. It also makes, without the cold water, a delicious chutney with an Indian meal.
Serves 2
1 ½ tsp tamarind paste (or the juice of 1 lemon if you're fresh out of tamarind ;))
400ml or 15fl oz cold water
¼ tsp ground toasted cumin
1 tsp jaggery or brown sugar
Small pinch of chilli powder
Pinch of ground black pepper
Pinch of salt
2 mint leaves
Mix together with ice and serve with the mint leaves :)
Lassi is also very refreshing.
