Wow! Thats a beauty! Never mind about prizes...its a fair old size for an outdoor cucumber, (well in my garden at least ::)), and it will taste fantastic.

Well done!  :)

I was bragging last week that I had my first cucumber this season, only to be told that it was a large corgette :-[ ;D I didn't believe them until I realised that the night life must have pulled out the white plastic marker. :-[ :'(

I'd planted half a bed cucs and the other half corgettes :-[ :P ;D Silly Billy ;D

Oooooooh!  I want one like that.  I am pleased because I have four but they are only about and inch long at the moment.  I only managed one last year before my solitary surviving plant expired.

Georgie. Well done you.  As you know I have had many first grown ever this year so I certainly know how you feel.

wow - I'm impressed with your cucumber!

But, if I were you I would concentrate on growing those pound coins - I can see a big future in those!

Should I really, EJ?  Mind you, I could do with a wooden spoon!   ;)

Hi RC.  I have two plants and already a couple have got to an inch or so long then gone yellow and dropped off.  I haven't a clue what I'm doing so I can't explain why.  Hope you have better luck this year.   :)

Lorna, I think your courgettes are bigger than my cucumber!   ;)

Thanks Pauline, it's Burpless Tasty Green.

LOL @ RobC.

Cheers ChrisG.

Go for it, Caroline.  Daughter popped in tonight so we ate it between us.  It was sweet and juicy and so much  fresher tasting than anything you get from the supermarket.   ;D

Georgie. Have just come in from greenhouse. I have three cucumber plants (Marketeer) I can't get the hang of this male/female thing. I think I have removed loads of female flowers but I am paranoid about landing up with bitter cues,.I do love cucumbers. They are a prickly skin cucumber (what a description!!) no idea what they will eat like. Next year I am just going to buy female plants, Tonight I counted about 25 cues which range from 1" to 5". so hopefully I will like them.

Mine are the outdoor variety, Lorna, so I don't have to worry about removing flowers.  There's a recent thread about removing flowers on indoor types as I recall.  For what it is worth I thought it was the male flowers you are supposed to remove!  But don't quote me.   :P

Yes Georgie. What I meant was I have probably been removing some female flowers that I should have left  to form more cus.

Oh I see, Lorna, I bet everyone makes that mistake at first.  TG has put some very helpful pics in 'The Basics', though, in a thread entitled 'the birds and the bees'.

Hi Biscombe.  I expect it depends what variety you are growing.  The advice for outdoor types is to harvest them when they are about 8 inches long.
