Title: Shrivelled Courgettes
Post by: Common_Clay on July 17, 2006, 21:43:49
Hi, does anyone know the cause of this? I'd say around 50-60% of courgettes on the two Defender F1 plants are yellow/brown and shrivelled. These are on the plant at the same time as healthy ones, so can't be shortage of water? The plant itself is strong and not showing any signs of drought. I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.  :)

Those ones probably have nopt been pollinated properly - it is common.

Ah, ok, thanks for the tip... should I be doing anything to aid pollination, like shaking the flowers or anything? Or is that just daft...?!  ??? :)

If you are getting male and female flowers at the same time you can take the males to the female flower centres and transfer the pollen yourself... it usually sorts itself out though.

Thanks saddad, I'll give it a try if I see them flowering at the same time.  :)
