Do any of you open your gardens to the public? Our village is currently looking for gardens to have 'open' in the early summer to raise money for the local hospice. They do it every year and I am tempted, but don't know if my wee patch is good enough. Anyone else ever done it or have any experience of it?
;D ;D ;D
splat.
that's the sound of me falling off my chair from laughing too hard at the thought of people paying to see my garden!
hahahahahahahahaha aqui! hahahahahahaha.
Must admit, I think the same thing, but then you could always issue the visitors with tools and give them a wee job to do on their way round. ;D Apparently it is right popular round here and the villages all raise loads of money. Cream tea anyone?
well I'll definitely have to come to yours anyway!
EJ, in the two villages round here, they do it from the smallest courtyard gardie to the bigger ones, go for it! That way, you help give others ideas on what to do with their spaces and give them a nice day out. Round here, they go on mini garden trail :D
Me parents do it every year, they have a cake stall n drinks and mum spends all day telling people what plants are by their common AND latin names (she v good gardeny person) - they always make a small fortune, but they also have the most fantastic garden...
Worth a go if you have rare or uncommon plants, and peeps just like a good neb at other peoples houses/gardens...and it's for charidy
It does seem like a good idea mystic, but I have nuffink that unusual in the garden really.... I am going to ask around at school and see if any of the mums there do it...mind you, when I mention I have been to the allotment for the morning, or digging me garden they look at me like I am mad!
EJ just another thought, why not open your allotment as a garden for the day? After all, peeps with gardens grow veggies too and would be a different slant! Probably a very welcome one! Like Mystic says, you can provide tea and cakes and sell surplus, you'd be surprised how many would respond to that!
Emma Jane, I think you should put your name down. If you don't think your garden is good enough - now - you have the incentive to make sure it is by viewing day. Then you'll be the proudest of the proud that you achieved so much. Opening your lottie is a good idea too - can visitors pick peas? If last year was anything to go on, I could have "sold" loads of surplus runner beans, but there was no fete. Now then, you've set me thinking .......
Put your name down Emma Jane. I would much rather go and nose round someones private garden and even better allotment than visit a stately home garden
Go for it EJ!!!
Eileen.
