Thinking ahead for the winter...
I have had some great o/w onions, but as they were left by previous plottie I have no idea of the variety.
Which ones have you had success with this year? All suggestions welcome!
mine were a failure so don't take my recommendation, never let me down before whatever variety I have tried!
:(
There is a thread about this in edibles and three of us voted for radar. :)
Hi katynewbie
I've grown Radar (from Tuckers) for the last two years.
Great crop that also lasted well into the winter.

From seed or sets katy?
Senshyu Yellow were a huge success grown from seed in situ (seed tape) last year, so I'll be sowing these again next month. Sowed Rossa Savonese in modules yesterday (4 to a module). The little onions may have to stay in modules til the beans come up and free up growing space - aiming to plant out in September. Will sow Giant Zittau and Stuttgart Giant in a couple of weeks' time, but haven't decided on the Method. Might try a nursery bed, standing through winter, and transplanting in March?
I have grown Summer Gold (Marshalls) for the last couple of years and I quite like them. Quite hot eaten raw in a salad!
:-\
Sorry all, got carried away and put this in Basics by mistake! Was thinking of sets SSprout, thought the seeds would be too much faff, but now I am an expert spring onion grower...maybe? Also cheaper, my fave price next to free!!
;)
Radar works for me. :D Reds bolt for me. :-\
I must say I have had a reasonable crop from senshyu yellow this year and they where grown from sets. The reds all rotted off over winter so they are out for this years planting in autumn. Never tried them from seed so that is something to think about.

After replies to my query on the same subject I've decided to go for Radar.
Supersprout - where do you get your rossa savonese, couldn't find much when I googled it?
Cheers
