This is one of the kind nesting under the floor in the shed. any problems with that?

None at all, it looks like Bombus lucorum, a common bumblebee.

Do they have communal nests? There are a fair number of them going in and out.

The form small, annual colonies; I don't have any specific information on the number of individuals in a colony, but it would certainly be under 100, probably a lot under.
