Title: Farne Islands
Post by: Heldi on July 10, 2006, 16:08:25
Ahoy ye landlubbers, shiver me timbers and Clingons on the starboard side.... oops wrong type of ship.  :D

Went camping at Budle Bay on Saturday so took a trip to Seahouses and finally got on one of the cruises. Enjoyed it loads, unfortunately couldn't land on that day due to tidal do-dahs which would have got our feet wet. Double unfortunately was my daughter desperately needed a tiddle but because we could not land had do do one in a bucket next to the Skipper  :-[  :D

Lots of pics.

Sea was really calm though there was a bit of a breeze. It was as cloudy and grey as it looks and it was very cold. Well I wasn't cold because I was jumpered and coated up...some folks were in strappy vests and sandals and they provided the blue that the sky was lacking that day. Aint I mean  ;)

The seals were abundant and kept popping up to have a look. The birds were fantastic and I think the grey skies set them off quite nicely  :)  It pongs to high heaven though  :o

Nice pics. They reminded me of a trip a few years back when we took a boat over to Handa island in Scotland to view the Puffins and other seabirds. Thanks for the memories.

Great to get in amongst the seabirds as they fly over the sea.

Shags cormorants kittiwakes razorbills and puffins .

Hey call me mutli tasking..I'm pouring paint for my little un whilst posting these  ;D

WOW WOW AND WOW SOME MORE!

Wonder what you could photograph of Southend!  Not blinking seals and puffins that's for certain.  Lovely pics Heldi!  And in my mind, I have a funny pic of your daughter peeing in a bucket on a boat bobbing up and down on the drink, bless her!  :D

Nice photos Heldi. The Farne Islands are easily one of the most gobsmacking places I've ever been, so thanks for bringing back happy memories while I'm stuck at work...

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Grand pics  Heldi, shame about not being able to land tho.   I noticed the Grace Darling museum was closed.  She is an ancestor of mine apparently, according to my late grand dad.  I would have needed the bucket as well had i been on the boat.   ;D ;D

Lovely pictures Heldi.  They brought back many happy memories of a visit over 30 years ago.  Time I came up there again.   ;D ;D

Rob I'm pleased the pics cheered you up whilst at work. You'll just have to come back up again and get another whiff of that refreshing air around those islands ! My son was absolutely amazed by all the "white stuff"!

Carol according to my mother Grace Darling is related somewhere on my Gran's side!!  Yes I was a bit disappointed that we couldn't get off the boat but I'll just have to go again!  I need to do the Inner Farne Island and get swooped by the Terns too...it has to be done...Gem said!

Pauline you must take a holiday up here...it is the law!   I didn't take any pictures of the beach but as per usual, the towns were bustling  :) and the beaches were near empty  ;D

Get the kettle on, I'm on me way! :o Seriously though, one holiday was enough to make me want to move to Northumberland permanently! I did think about putting in an offer for Cragside...

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Perhaps we should do a house swap for a week or so.  We could then visit the Farne Islands and you and your family could have the pleasure of seeing Stonehenge, exploring the New Forest, visiting the beautiful Dorset coastline or wandering around the City of Salisbury or the old Roman town of Bath.

And you could feed our chickens.   ;D   Only got a few toys though, just enough to keep a 4 year old and 1½year old grandchildren amused for a few hours.   :D
