I have some lettuce and rocket seedlings that were sowed about a week ago and are about two inches tall already. Can these go outside now with/without protection?
thanks
yes. I sowed some about a month ago outside in a pot with a double layer of fleece over the top. They germinated and now have a single layer of fleece protection. Mostly the protection is against slugs, snails and hail!
thanks aqui, I will plant them out at the weekend with some fleece on. Forecast is dry and a bit warmer...should make a change!
I was given a packet of mixed leaf salad seeds the other day, what shall i do with them.
It says sow outside but my plots are no where near ready, can the be grown in grow bags once they have germinated orcould I even sow them directly in a grow bag......
Any ideas anyone?
Les
Les - I'm growing my lettuce in large pots otherwise the slimey things eat it.
How about having a few pots of it at home, so you can pop out at lunchtime, pick a few and then eat straight away. mmmm.
I think we might just do that.
Our lottie is at home though, it is all of 2m away from our back door.
Lucky I know...but our local lottie site backs onto the end of our street. ;D ;D and we managed to get the one next door to our house.
Do you know if they can be sown in growbags?
A liittle surprised to think that indoor raised (?) seedlings could safely go straight out?? Even with fleece. We've had sharp frosts for 2 nights & I'm worried about my outdoor sown ones.
Salad leaves- yes, in any container - but sow few and often - and keep them cut - they like to go to seed. = Tim
It's been cold these last couple of nights, but can't remember the last time we had a frost, so hopefully be OK. I grew rocket last year in early summer and it did go to seed very quickly, still, the flowers look nice.
