Title: courgettes
Post by: shirley B on July 07, 2006, 11:20:13
one of my courgette plants is definately not a courgette   :(  the leaves are the same but slightly lighter in colour, and it is very fast growing, BUT the fruit is round and green, at the moment the size of two fists and still growing.   has anyone any idea's. hope you can understand this ,it is my first entry as i have only just registered.

Hiya happygnan, welcome to A4A

I'm new and only found out yesterday, that if you send Dan the Admin man £10 (by paypal is easiest), he will set you up so that you can post photos, that makes it alot easier with species ID etc. (and allows the more nosey of us to see other people, their animals and their allotments)

Happy Courgette Growing! :D

So what's wrong with round courgettes??
But use them by tennis ball size - or, perhaps, grapefruit??

Sounds like the courgette ronde to me too.  I would take one off and cut it open. As Prink says, a photo would be helpful.

We were at our plot yesterday and are going to have another glut this year, if things continue as they are doing.  I have somehow ended up with 11 courgette plants: some little round globes ones haven't tried before and got given, which are already fruiting away, some green bush and zucchini ones. It seemed never ending last year and we only had six plants, can't understand myself growing even more this year,  thought some might not survive, but they have! Ah well!! It will be courgettes with everything again.  ;D busy_lizzie

I've only planted two plants this year because the family got so sick of them last year & we've still got some marrow in the freezer!
Katy, if it's the first time you've grown them, make sure you check regularly- they grow VERY quickly once they get started!

Ok i must confess I have FOUR courgette plants and my first MALE flowered today.

All four plants have lots of flowers coming up... when do i feed them?

I have liquid chicken poo and weed tea ready - will that be ok?

I am no expert Olive, but mine were planted in a bed saturated with manure and that is all I intend to do with them.  Just as long as they are well watered then I think they should do fine without having to add anything extra.  :)  busy_lizzie

I agree with busy-lizzie, I never feed mine, and to be honest have found they cope well in pretty rough soil.
