Title: just to say hello
Post by: shirlton on July 06, 2006, 19:14:00
I have just found this site and am looking forward to sharing info with you all. I have just taken on an allotment in Birmingham last week.We had one 5 years ago but due to family commitments we had to give it up. After just a week we are starting to work the muscles again, but really enjoying it. We are both retired so have the time to do all the jobs that need doing. So nice to be able to share the interest with you all

Welcome from me too Shirlton!  Glad you are enjoying your allotment.  It is hard work, but when the harvest comes in, it makes it all worth while.  This time next year you will think it is one of the best things you have ever done! Keep us in touch with your progress.   :D busy_lizzie

you'd be amazed and the knowledge i impart to others (but strangely never feel confident about doing so).  I'm almost looking for them to contradict me and to accuse me of being a fraud ! lmao

Your pumpkin takes you many rungs above me Cinderella.

thankyou so much for the lovely welcome. We are very enthusiastic at the moment but this hot weather takes it's toll. Its a case of 10 minutes graft and 15 mins rest. Have put some beetroot in and some oak leaf lettuce. Some leaf beet and some dwarf and runner beans.I know it's a bit late for runners but you never know. Up to yet there aren't many people on our site that have beans setting. Wev'e just bought a polypropeline greenhouse to put up there. Mainly for my old mom to sit in. She's got dimentia (god bless her). It will be good for her to get out in the fresh air. We both care for her and to have her up at the lottie for  a few hours will ease the burden a bit. Once again may I thank you all for making us so welcome

any time love, we're always here when you need a shoulder and a trowel.

my mum always jokes about losing her marbles, but god forbid that she ever should (although sometimes i reckons she's part way there).  ::)

i could think of nothing better than getting some fresh air into your mum's lungs and let her smell all the good stuff that you're producing.  i can't see how it can fail to do you all the power of good.

we do have demands on A4A however, which is pictures.  we do like a good pic.

;D

ask away, KP....see where that gets ya!

My mum had dementia and when she needed to go into 24hr care, I'd visit her every day. Often I'd bring her here and we'd spend the day in the garden. She so loved the birds and the peace.  Good memories of that time.

btw, is there a WC on your site?

Yes Alishka we do have loo. I wouldn't be able to stay up there for long if we hadn't. i'm on water tabs. We have a lady's and a gents. It's only a small site of ten allotments. We just have half a plot. It's been hard work so far and this hot weather hasn't helped much. It's a case of working for 15 mins and resting for 10 mins. We are hoping to get the greenhouse up this weekend. Not putting money on it though. We have a nice plot up in the corner. I will put some pics
on when I learn how to do it. Thanks for the replies
                                         regards Shirley

Hello!

Just found this forum - really good -seems to be very active.

I have two allotments on the Black Lane site in Leamington Spa. I grow loads of fruit and the usual veg.
