my main crop spuds foilage is starting to die back, and the earlies has all but died, should i leave this on or chop it of?
time to start lifting?
i have cut them off before when they were gloing over and got in the way - otherwise no. unless they are diseased?
Well mine are starting to die back . Remember when a small child my Grandad leaving them
untill they where stone dead until they where dug out . He was a market gardener so he must
have known what he was doing .
My Grandad told me to always cut the tops off when the tops have gone all yellow and mostly died off, then lift later.. ;D
I dont think it makes much difference, except if you've not got the time or space to lift them for a bit they'll keep in the soil for a while (if you don'nt have slugs munching that is), cutting the tops off helps stops disease (blight etc) getting into the spuds until you get round to lifting them.
