I've finally got my long service award (25 years) which means I've got £150 to spend ;D. I can't spend it on taking the family out for a meal or my OH away for a weekend, that's not allowed so it's all going on plants.
Any suggestions for a ground covering white flowering shrub or perennial, a honeysuckle and a red rose (old English type if pos). The garden is free draining silt, south facing and in west Cheshire. Thanks. Lance
Perhaps you could organise a trip to David Austin's ( I'm sure they must do accompanied tours or the like and therefore a VAT receipt) and spend a few hours going round the propogation areas and looking at and snifffing roses. IMHO roses are a very personal choice and it depends on how you perceive scent.
Alternatively, pop over to Morreys and splurge!!!
A white Bugle for ground cover?
Same goes for honeysuckle re scent - ya gotta sniff 'em to pick em.
Congrats on the award!
ps OH reccommends Velvet Fragrance for the rose
David Austin's site is here: http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/ . I'm not sure whether you want old roses or English roses, but if the former, what about the Aporthecary's Rose, which they sell as 'Officinalis', or my own favourite, Rosa Mundi? You'll find them both in the section on Old Roses, under Gallicas.
