its raining here yabbadabba-dooooo
Lucky you
Where are you?
Hot and dry in Lincoln but lovely for long days sitting in the garden and picking fruit on the allotment
Sheffield ... its abating somewhat now to normal rain - has been bouncing very energetically - I just came back from the lottie (couldn't see anything it went so dark) and got out of the car - ran perhaps 20 yards (some of that covered) and my top, trousers & boots were abolutely drenched through ... sat here steaming now with very happy smile.
Plenty of rain here in Cheshire too! Its been really hot and sunny all day, but at about 5.30 the heavens opened. Flash floods on the road.......but the courgettes are loving it!
creckless
Can you spare some for Cumbria? B****r the garden, I want to go sea trout & salmon fishing, & there was no water last year until the season ended!
Had loads of rain here as well along with thunderstorms!! Not at all happy, I have been looking forward to gardening today cos we have had enough rain and wind etc. our soil is wet enough (Scottish Borders) The temperature dropped from 26C at midday to 16C at 4 p.m. It had better warm up or I am definately going to emigrate. Moan over..... ::) ::)
It has been 32 degrees in the shade here in Oxfordshire. The garden and lottie desperately need some rain :(
Same here in Herts - I think I will expire soon if it doesn't get any cooler ::) Please send some of that lovely rain our way :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I feel like I'm melting but I'm not getting any thinner ::)
Still hot and sultry in Lincs - finally got my runners in - really struggled with those this year. Watered the ground but could still do with a few buckets of water on them from above until they get settled. Everything else seems to be thriving btw and has not seen a watering can - except the potatoes that only get sprinkeld with compost tea.
Not a drop (or sign of one) in Cambridgeshire! I love a good thunder storm... :D
We're getting the odd roll of thunder, but hardly a drop of rain. I wish it would get on with it.
We have a heatwave forecast in this part of the country. Was 32 yesterday, today, same for tomorrow, Tuesday & Wednesday. I love the hot weather but tis a wee bit much in the evening when trying to cool down. Thursday we are supposed to be down to a lovely 24 :) Unlike you poor lottie peeps, I am NOT praying for rain, I love the sun! ;D

Well in this part of Essex, according to those nice peeps at metcheck.com, we are forecast rain Tuesday afternoon and again Thursday afternoon. Lovely stuff! I shall be keeping it all crossed as two lovely wet days would bring everything on famously!
Well here in Berkshire, we're absolutely parched with temps. getting well into the early 30'sC......much too hot for me I'm afraid ::)
Now I don't want a noisy or scary thunderstorm but would welcome a good old steady downpour (all night preferably ;))
Can't go near the lottie in this heat - I suffer from heatstroke as soon as it gets very warm - have to nip up there on the odd evening, once the sun's gone over a bit to do bits of watering.
H.P.
Sorry for going off topic, but how do you stay cool HP? any tips? ;)

It rained yesterday for all of 2 minutes, I think even the rain wishes it hadn't bothered LOL
;D
We had the biggest ever thunderstorm here in Oldham yesterday! It started about 5.30pm and went on for at least an hour, rain continued for longer. Was terrified that my newly planted out French Beans would come to grief, but been up this morning and everything is looking great! I have my first courgette and I swear the peas have puffed up overnight, if veg plants could smile...
;)
Nothing here, no rain, no thunderstorms, zilch. Red hot out in the garden already this morning so I can only imagine what the temperature is already up to in the polytunnel!!
The weather has been good for growing veg lately but the horses are already sick of the heat and spending half of their time wandering in and out of the stables to cool down, poor Bill the goat looks permanently shattered but still refuses to have his shaggy coat tidied up.
Time to get the clippers out again for the dogs too so they don't overheat.
Sooooo frustrating....tried to answer Roy's question twice...done long messages and after pressing send......they seem to have disappeared.... >:(
:o ??? :-[ :'( >:(
does this ever happen to anyone else??
maybe they're in cyber space somewhere and will turn up :-\
well - that seemed to go ok!......a mystery :o
will try and answer you later Roy....gotta go!
In Norfolk for a couple of weeks... the lettuces are shrivelling in the garden; spring onions flopped to the ground; rhubarb is not happy; gooseberries are coping well; strawberries are listing to leeward, and the tumbler tomatoes in the hanging baskets need twice daily watering or they crumple. The beetroot in the nearby field has its leaves flat to the floor.
Half a mm last night.
But come THURSDAY - in the Cotswolds - cooool & significant precipation!!
You believe that??
PLEASE - have the last brassica to go out!!
Not even half a mm here in the Midlands ... lots of flashing and banging, so expected the torrents imminently, but they didn't appear. Metcheck forecasts a few mm for Tuesday night. Will wait and see ...
Last night, in Brum, I was sitting in my garden with some friends who'd brought round a few cans (to add to the bottles I'd provided which were already opened). And it started to rain! Big fat warm splodges! Never seen such a rushing to cover the beer bottles in my life. (well, it's watered down enough already..) And then the rain stopped and we settled back to gentle guzzling - excitement over.
Today I really need to go to A&E - 2nd time this gardening season - but it's a bit late now.Blazing sun and no sign of it breaking. Nurse friend tells me to go early tomorrow morning, before the heart attack victims start arriving.
Hard-boiled but practical lot, nurses.
Forgot to set the Air Con to come on in the office before i got in, it was 36.5 deg C ! when i got in. Cooled down a bit now - but all the desks feel like hot plates and the radiator is hotter than it would be if it was actually switched on!
Things are looking bit sad now on the allotment - main crop spuds have started to wilt and turn yellow already, broad beans all wilting pods all bendy and leathery, strawberries now mostly dead (but i was getting a bick sick of eating them). Brassica's looking very sad and droopy...
I hope it rains today..
We had one humdinger of an evening in South Cheshire - torrential rain for a long time but still hot & sticky so the paving dried really quickly, and then it rolled back over again & we had even more monsoon type water falling.
The guttering couldn't handle it nor could the drains. That was great fun until there was a lightening strike waaaaaaay too close to us. I rushed to the window fully expecting to see a hole in next doors metal garage - thankfully, I was being over dramatic, but the after silence was weird.
After a bit it settled down to steady rain so I could get out and water the hanging baskets under the porch roof for my neighbour.

Same here; I was down on the plot, looking at the clouds building up, when there were a few big hefty splashes. Then it stopped. Talk about a let-down!
Atleast you got the splashes..... we had all the promise of a huge storm, huge dark clouds, but it just floated over and went and watered someone elses allotment >:(
I WANT RAIN I WANT RAIN
Tim, you say Thursday for the cotswolds..... well i'm in Swindon hopefully it's close enough, if it does i'm going to do a dance up the lottie . (note i did NOT say a naked dance ;D )
P
Still no rain in sunny Somerset!!! 75degrees at 7am today.the temperature as we speak, is 105 in our garden. Too hot for me.
Oh dear, and I am jealous of all you folks darn saff with the lovely heat. I am sitting here with my cardy on feeling a bit cold. It is dull and misty out there and has been most of the day. I WANT SOME OF YOUR HEAT, please. I will send down some North Sea Haar..... and rain.....
:( :( :( :( :(
Tues 2 p.m.
The Sun is out!!!!! its quite warm around 19c so thats an improvement. Its been foggy all morning. Hope its a bit cooler in the south.
well, another hot and sweaty day in Essex. It became very overcast whilst I was on the school run and I was terribly excited....3 drops later, and that was it, sky was blue again! Big storms are forecast, but I reakon they have missed us! Been raining in London where my darling (birthday boy tomorrow!) has been working.
Finally we have had a few drops here in the Midlands, not enough to do more than wet your shirt though. Here's hoping it continues ...
Yep Amanda we do need some rain in Cambridgeshiire. I really love the sun can usually cope with the hottest of days but must admit last couple of days it was a tad too hot to be in the garden all day. Would you believe I had to stay indoors even caught up with my ironing!! Today is a little cooler but still no rain.
Lorna
Just down the road from lorna, about 6pm dark damp clouds rolled over (great excitement). Sprint to plot to harvest onions before the rain. All hoiked up quickly and lobbed into greenhouse, clouds headed West and the sun came out again ::) :-\
I can report that a raindrop fell somewhere in Lincoln ;D
We had a heavy shower earlier (west kent) and according to metcheck we are going to get 8" over the next weekâ€"four times our July average.
This year has gone, drought, snow, drought, flood, drought, flood...
8" .... off to look at metcheck - after our torrential downpour its been baking hot again :-\
Went to the lottie last night and the surface is very dry and dusty already.
Good luck, Metcheck has been down most of the day.
It's now up again. We had massive cumulonimbus sprouting all around, never a rumble of thunder, and not a drop of rain. The one good thing is that when I lifted the elephant garlic, the soil round the roots was still moist.
Just been chatting on IM to my niece in Erith Kent and she told me they have had rain this afternoon.. When are we going to get it?
Lorna
Metcheck still having server problems, but the PDA version is still OK at
http://pda.metcheck.com/
:-\
Been thunderstorms forcast for dorset for the last 24 hours though not even a rumble yet. The skies have threatened a few times though.
Boy, we need a good storm though, the heat and humidity here during the day is tiring and uncomfortable to say the least.
I just have one request - can it be during the day so i can have some sleep at night?

can you ask the birthday boy where, please? must have been east/central. i work in chelsea and not a drop. OH works just 1.5 miles north of house, says 'did it rain in through the open rooflight, it's been torrential for half an hour at lunchtime.' no, it hasnt rained here, the garden is sooo dry and the rooflight didnt let in any rain on account of not having had any!
rain is soo selective this summer!
rumble of thunder woke me this morning at 4am, light shower, i bet it's all dry again now
:'(
Metcheck have now withdrawn their promise of rain, for my area.
EDIT: so now it is raining heavily, is something up with mecheck?
its raining in bournemouth yah hay!! big fat blobby blobs of rain. boy does my plot need it, hope it carries on it'll all be bouncing off for the first few hours i should think.
Same here (Midlands) Metcheck says no rain until this evening, but it is steadily raining ...
AT LAST!!!!! a welcome thunder storm yesterday and some nice steady rain today :)
It's overcast in central Birmingham, but not a drop so far. We really need a mega thunderstorm. It's a bit cooler today, but yesterday I was stuck in front of the computer marking GCSE's for most of the day, and it was truyly unbearable.
at long last we've had some rain too here in Berkshire....started at 7.20 with thunder rumbling around followed by a heavy downpour lasting all of 5 minutes!!
but over last few hours it's re-started, stopped again followed by a few more heavy sessions which has been great - now tho, it's brightening up looks like sun not too far away.....not quite so hot - outside thermometer says 24c (in shade)
suits me fine ;)
Had some light rain here in dorset. No thunderstorms or even thunder! Its dull and misty but feeling a little cooler - if still a bit humid.
Glad some of you were aable to go on metcheck's website - i couldnt get into it (not responding).
According to Met Office, it's raining all over East Anglia all day today and tomorrow. Not a drop as far as I can see, we desperately need it, I had to use fresh water yesterday to water veg, been OK with water butts up to now, but they are now empty.
Rain Please!
It's absolutely tipping it down in London at the moment, so it'll probably be heading your way soon prink13! ;D
Prink-13 Maybe it has missed your road and mine!!! I thought it was cooler (probably is)but I have been on a mammoth housework bender and I am just about melting. Stopped to have a cuppa., mind you it doesn't take much for me to stop housework ;D another half hour and I can go and do what I like doing best GARDENING!!
Rained for about three hours on and off here in Somerset, not enough to make much difference!
Hi Cookie
The odd spot here, west bromwich side of birmingham. Forecast lots of rain, hubby playing golf ;D ;D ;D
Monsoon here in West London ;D. Of course at 3.15, when I pick up the kids from school!
It's been raining here in Wiltshire for most of the day. It is falling at a steady rate now but has been really heavy at times. I am so pleased that everything will have had a good soak.
I will send it up to East Anglia overnight for you poor souls who are so desperate for it there. ;D ;D
via Birmingham, please, Pauline?
I'm sorry, but I don't think it should go via anywhere, olease send direct if you could - I am your favourite Niece after all!
I decided to make it rain up here, I put on a suntop, and went for a drive with the roof down on the car - a sure way to start a thunderstorm - but nothing-not one little drop!
I'll be doing a rain dance next at this rate. We had some drizzle this afternoon, which didn't even wet the garden. The weather's much pleasanter, but the floodgates of heaven are obstinately refusing to open.
we got 3mm today, and now are basking under clear skies, they had promised us 52mm today. ???
They were SO wrong - 1mm today.
Fishguard & Keswick got over 12mm yesterday!!
Barely a sniffle here, and me butts bin dry for weeks! :-\ :'( :'( :'( I really had my hopes up for today.
I see Metcheck have postponed our deluge till tomorrow. They've developed a tantalising habit of forecasting heavy rain which never materialises. It's got to the stage now when I won't be happy till I see animals passing by in pairs.
He is in Old Street Svea, and I spoke to my Uncle who was waiting for a train at Baker Street and he said not a drop had fallen!
Had a very very light shower this morning whilst I was working, just enough to dampen down the dust on the paving, but it was dry before the rain had stopped! Then on the school run, at least 8 drops hit the windscreen before the sun came out again! I am doing voluntary work at school tomoz taking a class of 30 over to Priory Arch, a local monument, to do observational drawing...would rather it didn't rain then, and after I am popping to the allotment for a couple of hours, so would rather it didn't rain then. Tonight would be lovely please, then again tomorrow night. Many thanks! ;D
A4A is possibly the best weather forcaster, at least we can get a pattern of what is going on in the weather world in our posts ::) slightly better than sticking a wet finger out of the window ;D Metcheck a waste of space, Beeb comes a close 2nd. :P ;D
We have had a sprinkling of rain but not enough to cover all of the dry spots. ::)
TORRENTIAL rain here now, I presume it is the same in most places? At least this should fill my butts ...
:o
Presume nothing, Curry!! Hot, humid, cloudy, looks like rain...but nope!
;)
Your presumptions shouldn't stretch to S. Birmingham either Derek. Teensy shower a while back, but it's clearing up nicely now ;D
Still living in hope.... ;)

I feel sorry for you guys, I was not gloating - honest (well just a tiny bit perhaps :) )! But the amount of rain that fell this morning seemed enough for the whole country. Manhole covers were lifted, and currently I am sat here in bare feet, as I had to wade into town at lunchtime through 12 inches of flooding ! Hope you are put out of your parched misery soon enough ...
Thanks curry, Metcheck promised 7mm of rain this morning! Had buckets out and everything! :-\ >:(
Still no measurable rain here though it has looked likely several times. We have had nothing since the wet spell some six? weeks ago, but a couple of days ago a village eight miles away was flooded by the torrential downpour. :(
;D
At last summer has arrived in the Scot. Borders. A hot day with a coolish breeze blowing. What more can a gal ask for?

Funny how the weather gets us all chattering. When I pick the urchins up from school I can hear lots of conversations about the weather!
Well, cloudy all morning, dare I say, slightly chilly, then the sun came out at lunch time, promptly followed by a steady, but light downpour that lasted about 10 minutes. I was on the allotment and I barely got wet and the ground was dry within minutes. Then, what do you know, out came the sun and it has been balmy ever since!
Worry on the allotment now is all of my water butts are empty as I have been sowing seeds and watering the drills, plus I have given my newly planted leeks a good drink and my wilted melon plants had a good drink, which is rare for me as I normally let these plants look after themselves!
Very loud and long thunderstorm here in Oxford at about 5 or 6am this morning till around 7am.
Then several downpours throughout the day. Has made it a bit cooler thank goodness. And the soil needed the rain too!
As prink13 said No rain in March yet. I know we need it badly but as I am going on my freebie weekend tomorrow (Hemsby) can we have the rain during the night when I am asleep please.
Yes, Moggle. Out there in my boxers at 5am, checking the flow into the butts. Just as well! 3 were blocked.
Got back in just as the lightning hit. Soaked. Power off several times.
But the strange thing is - 28mm fell overnight, so I thought great, put out the lettuce. Moist soil? You're joking again!! Less than 1/2" penetration.
PS Tried 3 times to post the pic but the upload is full. Back later!
Went up the plot to water today and got soaked, fortunately B4 I got the hose out ;D Boy did it rain but only for about 15 mins :(

Not where I am. We had intermittent drizzle this morning, which didn't even damp the ground. This afternoon there were a few rolls of thunder and a large black cloud in the distance; I assume that was your lot. This evening we had a brief shower.
Still nought here. me plot is the most parched I have ever sen it! :'( :'(
No sign of rain here yet either, but I am getting a fab tan!!!
Had a touch of fog a couple of mornings ago but that's it......very strange for the north east I must admit, we usually don't get much of a summer lol
Here's the picture for my 1957 above, thanks to Dan!
i bought a rain water measure thingy. i intend to keep records of rainfall throughout the summer season, starting on the 1st july.
we did have some rain on wednesday - on a off quite heavy showers for half an hour at a time - i thought great - checked the measure - says 6mm of rain??!! still, soil was moist (moisture reader) but was probably moist before the rain, too - my clay keeps moist for ages at 2 inches down.
ho hum

Funny old day again, and breezy to! I will get the sheets on the line in a mo, bound to rain then! And I am carless so will be walking to and from school, so look out Essex, 3pm the rain is bound to fall! ;D
It won't work EJ. I have been taking my dog for long walks wearing only a T shirt and shorts (me not the dog) a formula guaranteed to get me soaked in previous years. I am, however, still bone dry.
Well, we have now had 2 showers and the sky is still very grey. Still haven't got my washing out cos now the drains are bloked!!!! >:( so the machine is turned off. TUT!!!
Heavy rain forecast for us tomorrow but still with a temperature of 29! I might just take some showgel and shampoo out into the garden.
Here in Sunny Tunbridge Wells we had torrential rain and huge thunder storm over night (unforecast) right now we are being lashed from leaden skies and the thunder is rolling in again.
Just looked at www.metcheck.com and they have a severe weather warning out for South and South east England predicting heavy rain and thunder.
Hooray! must be my fault, I put some guttering up on the shed on the lottie yesterday...this should fill that barrel!

Its just dropped a huge load here in Reading thank you god :)
I could have told you all it would be precipitating today. It is our summer show day :'(
Was woken up about 4 am by a very loud bang here in Whitley Bay - huge clap of thunder and flashes of lightening, and then a torrential downpour.
Was back to the sunshine this morning, but the sky is becoming overcast again this afternoon. It is the town's Wild West extravaganza today, so people will be hoping any rain keeps off for the moment. Hope your summer show goes well for you ACE. :) busy_lizzie
Hope the rain has reached DP :)
a good drenching of rain lasted about an hour here, preceded by a sky sooo dark that the street lights came on .
Just like the rest of this month, not a drop!

Lorna, Last night we had thunder, Amphibian about 9 miles away says he had torrential rain, we had some, but hardly enough to wet the pathways :'( Then today, lovely black clouds rolled in, HUGE claps of thunder, and about 3 mins of rain..............harrumph, better than nought I guess!
What a wonderful sound.....it's called.......rain!!! :D
been steadily raining as Pete says above, here in the Reading area since just before 1 o/c and no real thunderstorms to 'scare me' into turning the computer off!....
keep it up please - we need several hours of this to do any good.
Do hope all those needing rain will get some soon.
No thunderstorms and very little rain here in dorset today despite the forecast. Enough rain to wet everything but the soil where its needed!
Yet I keep hearing about all these tremendous storms people keep having.
Just not fair. We need RAIN!
We got it! we got it! ;D God's turned his sprinklers on all over my garden (sounds as though he's moving the garden furniture about as well :P)
DP Just spoken to sister-in-law Chislehurst. Chris said "How lovely to have the rain and much cooler" Not here it ain't!! Drop of rain but now nothing again, overcast and humid..
Still nothing, not even a breath of wind, wall to wall blue sky and it is hard to even breathe!
Still raining here ;D Cold, too.Had to put a pair of sox on 8) Spect I'll have to put my wellies on in a bit & go to close the greenhouse.Gotta keep my babies warm :P :D
There was continuous thunder to the south around 2.30 this afternoon, and it was obvious we were on the edge of something major. It never moved north though; we got a couple of hours of honest rain, but not the floods we need.
???
Hang on, rain all over the place and none here in Oldham? Something has gone horribly wrong, questions should be asked in the house, we need a public enquiry...sorry, been lottying all afternoon, the sun has got to me!
;)
10 minutes howling wind, 10 minutes drizzle, now wall to wall sunshine. One very dead and dying garden!
Big storm here in North Yorks- :D the washing's soaking but I don't care as long as the water butts at the lottie are filling up!
:( Not enough rain here to write home about :( barely kept the dust down :'( and no thunder or lightening, that I like to watch :'(
big thunder storm here (mansfield) this after noon, rained for over an hour, should perk things up in the garden. as well as the weeds, lol
No rain here in Leith (well, technically Edinburgh) bits of haar over the past couple of days tho - forecast maps show wee circles of rain over us but it never seems to come to anything, thank goodness for standpipes on the lottie.
Absolutely tipped it down in Oxford at around 1. OH and I deliberately went out walking in it (though we didn't expect it to rain quite so heavy), and ended up looking like drowned rats within seconds. For the first time in days i actually felt cold! Bliss!
As always, when it starts to rain, I have to check the flow into the butts. Just put on a clean shirt and.....? Well, got thoroughly soaked & had to hang it on the AGA.
But - AT LAST - we had 20mm. Enough to save something.
We had rain in Olney Bucks thunder lighting and 35mph gusts sadly I was at a wedding started as the bride arrived and still raining as we left so no photos luckily marque still there when we arrived for reception the weather settled leaving a lovely glowing light for them to have their photos and a great party!

3 mins, wow! We had about an hour of sustained heavy rain, but they didn't get it in Tonbridge either. Weather is far more local than is often realised. A few months ago I got a call from a mate to ask if I wanted rescuing from the allotment, I asked why I would want rescuing from a sunny dry day, he was in Southborough and it it was belting it down, only a few miles away in Hawkenbury I was basking in sun.
At this end of the world we are still waitng, so if you lot have finished with the rain please, please send it this way.
Bring it on, baby! 8)
Had a decent bunch of thunder storms with drops the size of tuppeny bits on saturday which have filled up the waterbutt at home and saved me watering the plot. On the downside, by evening it had stopped and my shift behind the bar at my local was horribly muggy :(
I'm currently thinking to try and install a second waterbutt one on the other side of the house, and wondering how best to rig a system to use handwash and bathwater to fill toilet cystern. If/when I come up with a cunning plan, I'll let you know!
Meanwhile at least the first of these requires a 30foot ladder which I don't have... hmmm.
PS: sorry if you didn't get any! :(
