Title: Chilli shortage
Post by: Sparky on March 23, 2004, 13:55:56
After hunting high and low for chilli seeds and not finding any (i think everywhere must have sold out)  I was wondering about just buying a couple of fresh chillis from asda and using those seeds.  Would i need to do anything special to them or just whack them straight into pots like ordinary shop bought seed?

Sparky,
Have you tried the online shops? I bought some chilli seeds from Seeds of Italy yesterday. Also, try Ebay..lots for sale.
As for using shop bought, remember that they may not come true if they were from an F1 hybrid, plus the chillis were probably grown in a hot climate and may not be the best thing to grow here.
Whereas the seeds sold here will generally have been tried in this country and been successful.

How many do you want sparky? If it's only a few, I have some spare cayenne, if you want them. Also, might take a few days for me to remember, and have no idea how seeds transport in the post.

Hi Sparky,

Another site worth trying, and they have the Thai Hot chillies too, is www.plantsofdistinction.co.uk

Best of luck  :D
