Title: Am I harbouring a weed?
Post by: cardinalflower on June 26, 2006, 20:38:01
I've got this attractive looking plant/ shrub in a pot. As yet it hasn't flowered, don't think it will! .... just leaves and also am not sure if it's evergreen. My guess is it drops it's leaves in autumn. The leaves are lovely and velvety and almost have a soft cushion feel. I have checked under various tree ID websites as i thought it was a baby tree but cannot recognise it. Is it a weed?

:P

Looks like a little sapling of a birch or something along those lines....

I have several pots with similar saplings in, where our 'friendly' squirrel hides his nuts and forgets about them!  They are in pots which have spring bulbs in and have just appeared since the foliage has died down.  I think ours are hazel and I shall use them to fill gaps in our hedge. :)

hiya,
doesn't have square stems but i think you guys maybe correct about it being a baby tree of some sort. Might be a beech.  Thanks anyway.
