Title: Quails
Post by: Tora on June 25, 2006, 15:01:42
Hi all.

How much space do quails need? My council do not allow us to keep any animals on the allotment so I'm thinking about keeping quails in my garden/house. I should add I would like to get some eggs from them. :)

Also anything I should know about quails would be appreciated.

Thanks

Quails - you cant keep more than 1 male together as they are very aggressive... but then for eggs you dont need a thingy anyway!

You have to give them plenty of head height - such as an aviary as they fly vertically and will kill themselves if they dont have enough height.

I think they are fairly easy to keep - lay from 9 weeks of age until 2 years i think!

But they get out really easy so you need a really secure aviary... they arent friendly like chickens so you cant tame them.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, Olive Oil.

I didn't know they start laying eggs that young! I'm going to think about where I 'm going to put an aviary.

Thanks again :)
