Post by: sandersj89 on June 25, 2006, 11:07:20
Managed to take some pictures this morning while having a break from sorting a few things out.

Brassica nursery bed as I have club root and raise them all in pots, these are being planted out over the next week or 2

Pinks and Freesias for cutting, the Pink is to be named after Mum and my father hopes to have it available commercially in a few years time, the nursery have given me some to see how they go on my heavy soil!

At the moment most things look OK and we are eating well, could go with a drop of rain though!

Good stuff Jerry. Thanks for showing your crops to us.
Hope you dont mind, just want to ask a couple of quick questions.
1. Can I still sow All Year Round cauliflower and get a crop this year?

2. How do you start your lettuces off?-direct, one per module/pot  etc.

Just thought I'd ask as your crops look so good.
     Cheers-Marky. :)

So Jerry, where do you hide the weeds?  ;)

Fantastic!  Very jealous of your toms....I am weeks away from picking any.  Same with courgettes!

What are the brassicas that you will be planting out?

Not at all.

Re the cauli, yes, sort off, if you sow now you will get a spring crop, bit late for an autumn crop now. I will be sowing some in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Lettuce I start in modules, 2 seed to a module and remove the weaker. They plant out far better that way as they have no root disturbance and are less prone to bolt.

Thanks

Jerry

Ha, one picture there spurred me on with the hoe later when I saw how weedy it looked!!!!

The brassicas are a mix of things, cauli, sprouts, cabbage, kales, 2 or 3 types of most.

Thanks

Jerry

Thanks Very Much for the info Jerry.I will start some All Year Round Cauliflowers soon.I sowed some  Marvel Of The Four Seasons Lettuce in individual mini-pots a few days ago. It's probably my favourite lettuce.I've done ok with Sangria, but they are nearly finished now.
I will try and get my finger out and have a go at posting some pictures soon.

What size pots are the aubs in? How are your outdoor toms getting on? Some of mine have set the first truss, but other varieties haven't.

Amazing - so productive and tidy.  How much time does it take each week?

Sorry for the delay in replying!

Outdoor toms are doing fine, I am picking Tumbler now and Sungold, another cherry will be ready come the middle of this week.

I am about to pinch out the tip of Ferline, 4 trusses set nand one to go. Marmande and San Marzona and doing their usual sprawl mall over the place. And gardeners delight looks like it will be a nice crop.

Fingers crossed for all of those!

The Aubs are in 16" to 18" pots. Now flowering.

Jerry

Hard to say as it varies lots though the year, but average out at about 3 hours a week or so through the year. At the moment it is about an hour a day in the week and 2 or 3 a day at the weekend. I was up at 5am yesterday to avoid the heat!

Thanks for the info about Ferline, Jerry. I'm growing this for the 1st time and it's streets ahead of all the other outdoor toms. Will count to 4 and pinch out. :)

Hang on a tick, I said 4 trusses set and one to go, so count to 5!!

Others may do more but that worked very well last year and I was still picking in october!
