Title: Mullein Moth
Post by: sandersj89 on June 24, 2006, 21:20:38
Snapped this beastie today, I am reliably informed this is the Caterpillar of the Mullein Moth. Stunning thing, about 2" long.

They turn into a rather drab moth:

Quite right. All the mulleins on my site get eaten into sieves at the beginning of summer, then recover later.

I grew som verbascum a few years ago. All bar one plant were ravaged by this thing which seemed to come from nowhere (cabage whites are a bit the same). The one surviving verbascum plant was glorious but have been put off growing them ever since because of the caterpillars.
