Title: France Is Wonderful!
Post by: katynewbie on June 24, 2006, 14:25:17
 ;D

Hi all! Just back this minute and I am still amazed by what I have seen! South West france has it sussed re growing! Even the most humble, tiny garden has stuff growing. The markets have people with a tiny stall selling what they have grown themselves. Producers with a few goats selling their cheeses (delish) or a woman with plastic lemonade bottles full of her own home-made wine etc. I wanted all of you with me to show you how lovely it was! Have pics, but steam driven camera means I have to take them to the shop before I can show you.

Pics to follow! Need to catch up on what I have missed!

;)

I am going to France later this year so I was very pleased to see the bit about folks selling their produce. I will be on the french canals so hopefully I can get some of the local produce, especially the vino.

In the meantime I have a lot of work to fit in. Off to Hampton tomorrow, working on the Daily mail cottage garden and I think I may also have to work at  Tatton in a few weeks time. I will really need that holiday when the time comes.

I am glad Lorna had a god time on the island, the pub landlords are all restocking with gin as they say they had a bit of a run on the stuff ;D

ACE... Wrong tipple but there may be a shortage of brandy ;D I was on my best behaviour Lorna (jnr) thought I was ill :o
Ace the five gardens at Robin Hill are superb, just wish I had managed to get better pics.. Loved the walk all through the woodland and especially Mr Brown's garden (next day to Osborne House and gardens).
Are you in any of the photos in the Robin Hill Garden Guide brochure??
Sorry Katy butting in on your thread :)

Yes, I think you can get a back view of me fixing the gazebo in Valentines garden. I am glad you liked the gardens, They will look better next year as they get more mature and they get rid of the rabbits. Another 3 years work there and 20 more gardens to build. Next winter we hope to start the water gardens.

We are also just back from La Belle France, several pounds heavier!!!! The food is still such good value, and the markets are soooo wonderfull!!! We spent a small fortune(no, not on just wine!!!) Point Verte, is a really good agricultural merchants, loads of seeds in allotment size packets. Good varietys of beans and salad crops, also bundles of  100 leek plants for   about four quid. ( they are about the size of  good spring onions)  The car smelt wonderfull in the heat!!!Down side was the ferry that we came back from Roscoff on!!! Avoid the Pont L'Abbe at all costs !!!Six hours on the boat, and not enough seats to go around, we sat upon deck, and froze!!!
