Title: Runner beans
Post by: Mrs Ava on June 23, 2006, 22:22:04
These are Enorma runner beans.  Last year my entire crop was chewed through at the base of the plant by the resident vole family, so I upped sticks (well bamboos) and moved them onto plot number 2, right dead centre.  Sowed the seeds, 2 per pot, in the greenhouse mid April, planted out the first week of May and left them to it.  There is some blackfly present, but I have been squishing as I see them, and there are now baby beans right at the base of the plants.  I fear a glut of runners and the neighbours hiding from me when I try to give away bag fulls!  ;D

EJ. I am growing a few Enorma (one single row) they are not quite as forward as yours but they have certainly come on in the past week. My sister-in-law will not grow any other variety. She just grows in large pots, very small garden.
