Title: Pumpkin & courgette
Post by: Rosyred on June 21, 2006, 07:21:22
Hello, I've planted my courgettes and pumpkins too close together and they are growing well but the question is would I be able to move one or two?

I moved some myself last year with no problems - just get the full rootball and plenty of excess soil.

Yes I have done likewise, assuming they are not massive at the moment, and not fruiting. Water in well, and they should not suffer.

As an alternative, you could grow them upwards? Or train in a curly wurly, peg down the shoots in a circular fashion - this stops the trailing ones romping - they can be 1m apart this way :)

You won't have any problems moving them as long as you do it with plenty of soil attached, and they aren't too big to allow this. They should be small enough at this time of year. My only problem is slugs, I lost some of my cucumbers, and I only had a few to start with. It's a variety from the Real Seed Co (Wautoma), and I want enough to save seed from.

I have planted mine too closely, I will either move them later or just rain them all over the shop.
