I'd wait for an expert if I was you, but looks a lot like comfrey to me.... bit small though.  ???

Possibly borage? if the flowers are blue then I'd say borage

~Borage - it is all over my plot cannot brimg myself to pull it out.
Looks lovely floated in Pimms or claret and the bees love it.

given that i'm going to have to put mine in the soil too, what would it be a good companion to and what hate it.

Wonderful for bees kaypee, it's an 'all round' companion. Nothing hate borage, except the unwary plotholder who find '000 borage seedlings growing next year ;)

New book says borage is a particularly good companion to strawbs and tomatoes.  :)

do you this this gale and battering rain is payback for me using my sprinkler the other day ?  ???
