OK fellow Lottie workers, can everyone get off the computer and go outside and perform a Rain Dance. I'm tired of lugging containers to the lottie to quench the thirst of my poor veggies. ;D It's looking like the Kalahari Desert out there....I'm desperate for some rain...about 5 nights worth would be just perfect.....Thanks in advance....Dinger
great it worked........its pouring in glasgow. thanks very much guys.x
What is "rain" ???????????? :(
The last huge dowpour for us was Wednesday so we aren't to desperate, altho every little helps. Very overcast and muggy here so am keeping my fingers crossed for a stormy wet night!
Been pouring here in Dundee all day.
And here in North Wales >:( Can you stop now.... I want the sun back for the last few days of my weeks holiday please ;)
Just done metcheck and we aren't due rain until Wednesday night through until Thursday morning. That is great, would be perfect timing for me to spend Friday on the plot! ;D
We get '3mm on Tuesday night', elsewise no more than decimal 3mm for 2 weeks.
You saw my brassica!!
Got great new c d. Sergio Mendes- Timeless. Am dancing like a thing posessed. No. 2 daughter has joined in, now the bearded wonder.....EXPECT RAIN, DINGERBELL.

some people can be so selfish can't they ? :P
not had chance to play with me sprinkler since i bought it !!!!!
;D
Your day will come, MrsKP, your day will come...... ;D ;D ;D ;D
think i've had my chance this year. two and a half weeks of scorching sun and now back to grey, cool, drizzle.
trouble is after such a lovely fortnight recently, i'm sure everything is going into hibernation now, mind you if i stopped prodding and poking everything and watching things every 5 seconds, maybe all my babies would put on a little spurt without me realising it.
;D
All is forgiven. Despite the gloomy forecast................
IT'S RAINING!!
Felt just great out there this morning in T shirt & boxers!
I've abandoned my principles.
Danced all the way to Homebase and danced all the way back with ...
a Sprinkler :-[ :'( :-\
naughty but nice. don't bath for a week and you can justify it's use.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Just DO hope that all you sprinkler folk use the things properly - ie don't 'sprinkle' - SOAK!!
And that means at least 2 gallons per square yard. Otherwise you're wasting that precious stuff!!
E&OE
my paths are still squelching from the soaking we've had all weekend. whatever stands up to the wind will be well soaked.
won't get to use the sprinkler until next year now, by which time it will be banned.

It has tried to rain on and off all day, a few spots here, a few spots there, but although the sky is packed with big black clouds, no proper rain fell. However, I have had a lovely day in my own garden pottering around, hacking back, deadheading, planting and so on, and was very suprised, and pleased to find the ground really still quite wet. Found some more gorgeous flowers open which I missed yesterday - sexy cream coloured flag iris. Yum!
Still waiting----and dancing...... here in our dry little corner of England. ;D
We had a few brief attempts at drizzle, but that was all. What's happened to this unsettled weather Metcheck were promising? We had a church picnic yesterday, it was a great success, and it looks like mild overcast DRY weather is set to continue at this rate.
look you lot, would you pray harder for this miserable weather to shift south a bit please ?
25mph winds and horizontal torrential rain. i have brought the lilies in for safety but everything else is having to take their chances.
ONE IS NOT AMUSED !!!!

Can you blow it this way please MrsKP,
We're
still
dancing.................... >:(
;D
;D
;D
LOL emagggie, blowing a gale here, picturesque fat clouds whizzing overhead, and still nary a drop :'( they must all be heading for kaypee ;)
Then I think we'll have to turn round and dance in the other direction....... ;D
Bucketing down in Edinburgh and apparently heading South? :D I think everywhere except the deepest South East is due for gales and refreshing wetness.
Blowing a gale here in Essex tonight! Maybe it will blow the rain in.

Can you blow it this way please MrsKP,
i'm trying ........... i really must give up this smoking !!! :o bin blowing for 5 hours now ! at last it has stopped but it's freezing and tres tres windy. let's put it this way, i wouldn't want to stay out tonight !
::)
Had a really heavy shower here yesterday and windy too. This sun is back out this morning, but quite a lot of heavy clouds so might have some more rain today again. Snap; EMaggie, got the same CD "timeless" last week, -great to dance to. :D busy_lizzie
Yay, rained overnight! Sunny but still breezy today. Still, a drop more tonight wouldn't go amiss!
Just a teensy weensy drop here last night, soooooooooooooo...........
we're STILL dancing. Ha. >:( join in, Busy Lizzie
Minimal rain, blowing a gale, my toms and I aren't happy, and it's SO cold :(
Summer solstice been and gone and think I'm miserable :-\
Snap lish, hay bales sheltering (ha!) pole bean plantlets, nearly flew away cloching the newly planted globe artichokes, tomatoes skeletal and thirsty, jerusalem artichokes flat on the ground, use them as a windbreak ha ha ha ha :-[ :'(
happy solstice 8) 8) 8)
got home tonight to find one tomato plant sliced in half, complete crop of broadies horizontal, courgettes sliced every which way, brand new poppies that were still growing totally flattened, total swamp everywhere and picked 3 strawberries.
next year everything is going under glass. i can't take this disappointment.
am beginning to see the wisdom of growing to your local conditions i.e. if you live in an area that is renound for it's wind, rain and gales - DON'T grow things that will break under the pressure.
am gutted and i have a five mile exclusion zone around me atm.
:'(

:'(
Braving the elements and exclusion zone to send you a virtual hug (( ))
(am now tazzing off at high speed in the opposite direction - I'm not
that brave) ;D
:-* :-* :-*
i'm thawing out, drying off and seriously looking at a 12' g/h.
;D
So sorry to read about your troubles MrsKP. I shant moan about our lack of rain again.Good idea to get yerself a nice cosy greenhouse though. ;)
cheers m'dear. i'm calming down now, which is more than can be said for the wind !
this year i've gone gung ho and chucked everything in expecting a nice fat harvest at the end of it with no hiccups, next year i shall be far more choosy and grow things that have got a better than average chance of success given the local conditions.
it's all in the planning!!! am i'm learning that the hard way.
i suppose the plus points are that the existing g/h is standing up well to the battering, the mini ones seem to be locked down well and not moving either and everything that was covered is ok, the hanging baskets were already in the g/h so whilst i can't actually see them, they're unscathed even if i can't actually get in there to water anything !!! 8) . i did get three strawbs and i have a living room full of 4' high lilies most of which only have superficial damage so i shall go and have a nice hot bath, take my seed catalogue with me and look for dwarf varieties !!!
the joys of living on the west coast of scotland!! ;D
Our German visitors have now gone off on their tour of Scotland in their hired car. Felt sorry for them when I saw the weather forcast last night - gale force winds and a huge blanket of rain clouds over Scotland. ::) busy_lizzie
Mrs KP. You should have sent me a text. I would have told the ghost of Queen Victoria at Osborne House IOW that you are not amused ;D Didn't have a drop of rain all week, did have some gusty winds so I chickened out and wouldn't go on chair lift at The Needles with grandson this year!!!
Oooh Lorna, do they have a Stannah at the Needles, then? 8)
Lish ;D ;D ;DCould have done with one to get up some of the hills/slopes at Blackgang Chine!!!!
Well i think someone mustve done a rain dance down here today. We've had steady rain on and off since about 1030 this morning.
Or maybe it was me who did the rain dance last night? I did do a pretty thorough watering last night and topped up a couple of my waterbutts from the tap as well (for convenience in a large garden you understand).
Did not imagine in the slightest that there would be so much rain today (if any).
Still
b***dy well
dancing, now my dogs are really barking !!!!
Still dancing here in Somerset!! No rain to speak of for weeks, the lottie is l so dry, and our buts are now empty. We have about 20 assorted pots and tubs in our work garden, so we are having to use the hosepipe. No ban here thank god .
hot sun out here all day, visiting kids playing in the sprinkler, home grown broadies with a lovely beef roast, good England score, life is just great atm .... i'll remind myself i said that when it's pishing down next week with zub zero wind factors !
8)
We have rain!!! the dance worked :) :)
Started to drizzle an hour ago whilst I was in the garden picking strawberries. Pounds of them! Fabaroonee! Then spotted something growing out of my compost heap, and what do you know, a grape vine! Could it have come from a stray pip? Anyhow, I carefully oiked him out and planted him in a nice pot and now the shrubby little vine is sitting in the drizzle on the deck! Want to go to the plot tomoz, this rain is just perfect! ;D
Glad it's been a good day for you and your sprinkler MrsKP 8).I wish you many more...... ;D ;D ;D
sounds like most of us got what we were dancing for !!!
long may it continue ;D
Still raining here in Salisbury. Soon be moaning the soil is too wet. ;D
Raining here in London too ;D! Just wished I hadn't hung the washing out last night... :-\
Rained slowely all night. Yippee! Mind you, won't go to the allotment today, I will let this precious moisture fill my pea pods and fatten my strawberries. Tomorrow I am off to have school dinner with number one son, so will pop up after lunch for a harvest. Hoorah again!
Of course it may not of been our rain dances that caused all this rain at all, but a certain famous tennis tournament starting today in SW1 London!
;D ;D ;D
Right with you on that one, GC. I was about to say the same myself!
I live about halfway between Newbury and Didcot - just been into Newbury then back to work (in Didcot). Its raining loads in Newbury and loads in Didcot - but bone dry in my village >:(
Metcheck has been promising us rain for weeks, but it never seems to materialise. Even when it's supposed to rain on the day (I ignore long-distance forecasts) it still doesn't happen.
Yes robert, Metcheck - usually so good - hasn't been on the spot for a good month now :(
Okay, stop dancing now Essex folk. We have had nice steady drizzle in my little bit all day, and my water butts are now full. I was hoping to get to the allotment this afternoon, but didn't, and am hoping to go on Wednesday now I have the day off. Plus there are loads and loads of ripe strawbs in the garden to pick and I really want to before the slugs attack! (Picked 4 pound yesterday!) My grass seed on the lawn is well watered in, and my newly sown kale in modules has been watered thank you. Now some sun to get everything really growing!
Oi EJ, drizzled on and off here today (a little further down than you),butts nearly full, so I can't stop dancing quite yet, but I am slowing down now ;D
Lots to do on my plottie, hope to chacha cha up there tomorrow. ;)
