Title: I think my stawberries have runners??????
Post by: scotch-mist on June 17, 2006, 01:46:58
I know ,I should know better by now, BUT
my stawberry plants have long shoots with wee green leaves at the end comming out of them.

Is this what I have heard of known as runners?

The plants all have loads of leaves and flowers that are turning into green strawberries, which I know will turn red,
but I have never seen these shoots before.

I am growing the strawberries in growbags to deter slugs and they are doing fine.

Yep they'd be runners. You can pin the new plantlets to small pots of compost ( slightly opened hairgrips work well ) and once they've rooted cut them off.

Thanks djbrenton,
That's a great idea, I'll use that one when I get the next lot of runners, but this time I am greedy for the fruits  ;D

grotbag,
I've cut the runners off as I want the fruits, but when they are finished fruiting will I get more runners this year or will I have to wait until net year?

What can i say  ...........I want it all, and I want it Now :o       ;D ;D ;D

Just remember not to let your new plants from runners to crop in the first year.
