Title: what are trusses??
Post by: pakaba on June 13, 2006, 14:56:26
:P
sorry to ask this but is everywhere talks about 'when it has set its first truss' or after 5 or 6 trusses'  does that means flowers or does this mean when the fruit has formed?

And if i have missed a side shoot and it has started to flower should i cut it off or leave it?  The variety is Costolutu  (CF)

TIA

Paula

Think of a Truss as a branch with tomatoes on it. Each Truss usually has 6-10 individual baby tomatoes on it. A side shoot that has flowers on it is a truss. I think Costoluto Fiorentina are a semi bush type so don't be overly worried about side shoots but trim off as many as you feel to keep the plant ventilated.  I'm probably wrong but lets hope....Dinger

A set truss is when the flowers drop off and leave a mini baby tomato in there place

Nor me-but should add that Costoluto Fioretino is not a bush-it`s one of the most vigorous of `cordons` I have ever grown.

dinger - I have to agree with Cleo - a very vigorous vine! Can't recall different flowers.

But some nice definitions here?
