Hi
Can you please help me?
My grandad had his own allotment for years before he died, and he grew among other things, marrows.
With these, one of the things he used to make was marrow jam.
I have got a couple of recipes but they do not come close to the quality of Grandad's jam.
Anyone out there with recipes for this delicious treat, please contact me.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE
Try this recipie
6lbs diced marrow peeled and diced
6lbs sugar
6oz fresh ginger
6 lemons
1/2 pint water
Put marrow in a bowl and cover with sugar; let stand for 24 hours Grate lemon rind and squeeze lemons. Skin, rough cut and bruise ginger; put in muslin bag with grated rind of lemon ( I also put the pips in). Put diced marrow/sugar in pan with muslin bag and lemon juice and water Boil until marrow looks clear and syrup sets when tried on plate. Pot into sterile jars, seal and cover
Correctly 'Marrow & Ginger Jam'. Lovely! = Tim
what is this usually served with?
Marrow rum ;D ;D ;D
A bit of crumpet?? = Tim
Many thanks for the recipe.
Will try it over the weekend and will let you know how it goes
Thanks
John
Mmmm, nice one.
I've also tried substituting for MissBaritone's lemons and ginger - otherwise same recipe
- 12 oranges (pulp and grated rind) and the juice of one lemon
- half the lemons, and equivalent kumquats (finely sliced - looked stunning!)
Mmmmm - tempted to find a marrow at the weekend, as I missed the Seville orange season for marmalade this year. :-\\
All best - Gavin
