Title: full lottie as from yesterday
Post by: glow777 on June 05, 2006, 07:32:20
well almost....

Don't know if anyone can remember the mayday walkthru of my lottie but I commented on the neglect of the other side of my shared allotment. Well yesterday I spoke to the owner and she has all but given up - only wanting to keep a 20 sq yard patch for strawbs and summer beans. Would I like the other 260 sq yards, shed and greenhouse was the question.

My wife has never seen me happier, I now have 540 sq yards 2 shed, 2 greenhouses a chicken run and a shed/greenhouse combination and spent all last night planning on what to do with the extra space (except for lots of weeding!).

The difference the extra room makes is amazing as I can now have a permanent asparagus bed, a couple of trees, another hen hut for breeding, another  grapevine and a row of autumn raspberries and still have plenty of space left over.

rent will go up next year from £16 to £20 but who cares

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Very good news, bet you'll be going round for ages with a great big grin on your face that can only be explained to like-minded lottie holders! And all for four quid ... just shows, 'standard of living' is a very different thing to quality of life :) Good luck with your extension glow ;)

ta ss

just got given a 10X8 greenhouse today - so that now makes 3 1/2 greenhouses so no need to go the poly tunnel route

Sounds like world domination... one plot at a time.... mwaaahahaaaahaaa.

Mind you I know what you mean, I've recently taken on another half plot and am stamping down the nettles as we speak. Gawd know's what I'm going to do with it this time of year though, any suggestions are welcome!

Jon,
Be patient. Cover it with black plastic. Throw some sods on it to keep it down.
Come Autumn you'll dig the best soil you've ever seen.
Nettles love fertile soil!

Gosh, you're lucky. Here in generous Rother, £20 buys me 150 square yards of undug meadow plus a water tap. 540 square yards plus all that glass and shed shelter is unimaginable.

We have the reputation of being the most expensive allotments in Britain. Is this true?

I took my daughter to see the grave sized patch I have so far dug, and she fell about laughing hysterically.

Go down the black plastic route and start off some winter brassicas, eg Purple cape cauli, sprouting brocc, and when they get too big for pots plant them through it! I like winter radish and Sugarloaf chicory which don't go in untill August, try some over winter Aquadulce Broad beans... the list is almost endless, enjoy!

By the way Artichoke we have some private allotments in Derby which are £40 per 300 sq yds and no water! Now that makes our £10 look cheap!

 :-\

362 sq metres=£53.07 Add water, National society membership, Annual soc membership, Insurance...

GRAND TOTAL: £69.53

Cheaper than the gym though!

There has been a thread about Plot charges in the past.
I must be blessed as my two plots, owned by the P.C.C., charge £6/annum.
Blessed or what?

Congtratulations Glow!  Your empire is expanding.  Was really impressed with your other plot and enjoyed the walk,  - so look forward to seeing how you transorm this one.  So reasonabley priced too - what a bargain for two plots - your cup must be running over!  :D busy_lizzie

I am so happy for you. I wish I had more space at our allotment, I am trialing interplanting methods and block methods extra close planting and alsorts to try and fit all my veggies and flowers in.

I'm finding this quite strange - after so much cramming things together it's hard to adapt to planting things at the spaces given on the packets
