I'm in the north west of england and my toms are struggling to stretch out in my mini greenhouse - are they ok to go out yet?
Maybe not today - seems there's going to be a frost tonight. Supposed to be warming up though, honest. I'm in Glasgow and I'm going to wait until next week at least I think.
I'm going to have to risk some this week, but would rather wait until June 4th, we had a frost on the 10th last year!
???
These northerlies are a bit nippy. I'm putting mine out in the day - as long as the wind isn't too strong - but at night they come inside the greenhouse. In the North-East we can get late frosts, so I'll be waiting a week or two before putting them out.
One memorable year I went walking on the hills on June 4th. Everything was beautifully crisp, crunchy... and white. It had snowed overnight.
Mine are out but I'm in the south, I wouldn't put them out just yet in the north.
In the Midlands it's not cold enough to do them any harm, but not warm enough for them to do much good either. Mine are still under cloches.
Mine are out in Essex but they do have a windbreak around them and they are under the 'Ava_banana patent pending blight prevention tomato house' ;D so they are quite a bit cosier than the rest of the plants on the plot. So cold tonight, I am glad they have some protection!

Thanks Robert. Thursday, under Poundland cloches, it will be for me, then :)

had a frost the same time last year but have already put some of my tom out fingers crossed :D
I'm in the north west and I've put mine out, but they're right next to the house and quite protected - so far they have been okay... fingers crossed for some warmer weather! :)
It's supposed to be warming up over the next day or so, let's hope it lasts. I'm keeping my cloches on though till the plants outgrow them. Hopefully I'll be able to get the last of the toms out of the mini greenhouse today as they're now much too big for the pots and they're suffering a bit.
I risked it yesterday with a few and they seem to have survived the night, Ill keep my fingers crossd and stick the rest in in a few weeks.
I put out the last toms today (48 plants out altogether), and as I was pushed for time and it was a bit warmer, left them with no protection. They've been growing like mad in the mini greenhouse, but I still think I'll put the cloches over them tomorrow in the hope that they'll grow a bit faster than they would without protection.
