I have searched shops and seed catalogues for this but can't find any. i can find Russian taragon easily but I would like french. If anyone has any spare seeds i would be very grateful. ;D
Hi vez
French tarragon (the tasty one) is propagated by root cuttings only, and not seeds, so don't feel bad about not finding any! I saw some at Chris Bowers' nursery (Whispering Trees, Norfolk) for 50p a plant. Hope someone reading this might have some root divisions for you, I've not got around to getting any - yet :)
Thanks supersprout. At least I know what to look for now although I did look at the already grown stufff but still couldn't find any.
I learn something new on here every day. ;D
We have some tarragon - not sure if it is french
How can I tell?
If it is letme know how and when to take a root cutting and will get one to you
Eet ees ze accent which geeves zem away. ;)
I got some at Dobbies garden centre today. :)
Supersprout, and any one else,if you would like some, I have some french in my garden. :)
For emagggie:
Despite the old bat at the PO, the milk bottle of green goodies arrived today! That's a great way to send cuttings, though I admit I *did* crack up when I found it on the doorstep, delivered by my landlord. What she must think!!
They'll go into soil later today, I'll let you know how I get on!
Thanks so much, fingers crossed this attempt at growing herbs works,

Do be careful where you site it. I bought a robust plant last year from a garden centre and it pined away over the Summer. Subsequently I discovered that it loaths being next to Fennel.
Apparently fennel is only a good companion plant for ... fennel :-[
Yes, sounds like fennel is the neighbour no one wants to move in! LOL
If I move my 2 little fennel plants, I think I'll be able to put the french tarragon, oregano, rosemary, marjoram & basil all together. Does this sound okay?
And the fennel, um, well. I have some space at the very corner of my plot...but this is only ~8 feet from the other herbs. Is this far enough away? Also, will runner beans, sweetpeas, lavender & corn remain happy with 2 little fennel plants nearby? (With only 1/4 plot, I dont' have much flexibility!!)
Help!
Thanks,
