A friend has been given this - and told it is a Lavatera.
But it is nothing like ones I have seen.
Does anyone know what it is, please.

The plant you have is an incarvilea delavayi, simetimes called the chinese trumpet flower. It is a hardy herbaceous plant that like full sun.
