Title: Companion Planting?
Post by: Hippychick on May 26, 2006, 18:16:10
Does any one practice this??

I planted some French Marigolds with my tomatoes last year and my tomatoes remained fly free all season.  I've also heard that a good one to plant is nasturtiums as all bugs love them and leave the other stuff alone.  Does any-one know of any more and if so - do they work??

I planted sage in amongst my cabbages last year and those in the immediate vicinity were bug free. So impressed, I 've dug up the sage and transplanted them inot this year's brassica bed.

A friend of mine sent me an excel spreadsheet listing veg that like to be together, like to be kept apart, or aren't bothered. I could email you a copy of you like.

Thanks for all your replies.  I knew you'd be the folks to ask. ;D

Biscombe - what is silverbeet??

Hairyhippy - I'd love a copy of your spreadsheet.  Thanks.

I can't reorganise my planting system this year, but next year I will definitely be doing so.  I thought about planting a wigwam of sweet peas next to my runner beans in the hope that they attract the bees.  I'll let you know if I have any success.

Know very little about companion planting. Hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm not so sure about the merits of planting Horseradish as a companion for ANYTHING, let alone fruit trees and potatoes. It is a real menace, and how could you dig it up once it got established near fruit trees?  :(
