Carrying on from the discussion about cabbage collars, I can get hold of a lot of old lino, will this be okay or will it be too hard and sharp?
whats a cabbage collar ??
Hi fingle, these are things that you put around the bottom of the stalks (at ground level) to stop the moths etc getting into the soil and laying the eggs >:( .
Hi EJ, as long as the lino is flat to the soil and the little darlings can't get underneath it should be ok ;D
EJ, old linoleum also makes excellent bottomless pots for growing tomatoes, peppers, aubergines etc. by the `ring culture` method - just a strong stapler needed to fasten the ends into a circle - I used this method very satisfactorily for years.
