Title: edamame Japanese green soybean
Post by: luckystar on May 22, 2006, 15:50:32
Read that this bush bean is an extremely good source of protein!

Anybody know where to find seeds in UK or Netherlands? Thanks. :)

Edamame beans boiled in salted water are probably the healthiest beer snack around and these two are inseparable in Japan ;D

I grew a variety called Ustie from T&M last year but the beans were tiny and yield being so small,it wasn't really worth it.

I think they need a high temperature to do well.I don't know where you live but if you've got a greenhouse, you might have a better chance.

Good luck :)

I'm growing Ustie again this year - and hopefully they'll  grow fatter this year (more water?) then I'll have plenty of edamame. You do have to catch them before they go brown or even yellow though - early Sept I found!

I also only had 30 plants last year - this time I'm halving the spacing and so growing four times as many (I hope!). They rot really easily so best chitted first and the rotters chucked.
