Title: yellowing tomato leaves
Post by: Lotusblossom on May 20, 2006, 15:41:28
Hi

I've tried having a search for the answer to this one but have so far not found anything. I have several tomato plants some of which appear to have yellowing leaves. I've posted a bit more information and pictures on my blog here http://cmunkee.blogspot.com/ (http://cmunkee.blogspot.com/)

If any one has any bright ideas please let me know!  ;D

Thanks

Hi, your little tomato house sounds far too humid and is probably not good for the plants. I should try leaving the zip open to give far more ventilation. That said the plant in the picture looks perfectly healthy, it is normal for the very bottom leaves to turn yellowand die back at the stage that plant has reached. ;)

That looks perfectly healthy to me. Better than mine in fact, since some of them are under cloches which have been knocked about the last couple of days.

mmm....

so I'm probably making a fuss about nothing much  ;D

Oh well, I guess it's just me being an over anxious first time tomato grower  8)

It's probably not too clear in the picture but I do tend to leave the door only zipped up half way. This normally leaves the bottom flapping around and gives enough ventilation. The only time I find it totally zipped up is when my 2 year old decides she wants to help mummy and zips it up for me!

I think I might take a hot needle to some of the plastic and put in some ventilation holes just to help with the air flow.

Thanks for your help,

I have planted some tomatoes given to me and they are outside under some glass windows, some of plants leaves on the tips have turned a brightish yellow colour, with a small bit of brown, i have removed the said leaves, forgot to take a photo though, is the anything i do, the ones we have in our makeshift greenhouse that are growing in grow bags done have the same problem, any advice?.  The yellowing is different to one in the posters pic in the sense that the yellowing is on the tips and seems brighter

Sounds like it may be sun scorch caused by water on the leaves in sunlight. This normally results in a yellowish-white colouring and then dry brown crinkling.
