Title: Rocket Potatoes
Post by: alit on May 18, 2006, 10:58:51
Hello,  can anyone tell me how and when i will know  when my Rocket potatoes are ready for harvest without digging up and having a look.  They have about a foot and a half of nice green growth and i have just noticed some flower buds.  Should i take these off so that the energy stays in the roots and doesn't go into making seeds.
any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Alit ;)

The only fool proof way to know is have a furtle/grope around the soil to see the size of the tubers. I start to look at around 80 days for first earlies.

Removing the flowers is recommended by some, mainly for main crops not earlies, and I have tried it but not seen any noticeable difference in yield.
