Title: strawberries
Post by: luckystar on May 17, 2006, 14:25:34
Hi, Í'm growing strawberries for the first time.

I am keeping the rows weed free using a dutch hoe--every other day (think I am getting obsessed ::)). Is that too aggressive?

You can't be too aggressive with weeds in my book. Little b******s will spring up as soon as your back is turned. Calming down for a mo, I suppose you only need to weed when it needs it. If you do it too often there may be nothing there to actually weed. Probably once or twice a week would be sufficient I reckon.

Iv put straw around my strawberries - I still have to weed, but all things considered, it is not taking me very long at all- plus, it has the bonus of keeping slugs and snails at bay ( so far at least - fingers and toes crossed)

:)
