Title: Folding Campers.
Post by: cookie on May 11, 2006, 22:20:40
After years of holidays in our lovely old v.w. van,we had to get rid of it a couple of years ago, as it was costing so much to keep it running. Now both our boys are doing their own thing re holidays, we had thought about buying a second hand folding camper.Does anyone else have one,or know anything about them?  The beds look more comfortable than sleeping on an airbed, and as my back is dodgy at the best of times, it seems a good idea!! Any feedback much appreciated!!!

Hi Cookie

we have a trailer tent which is similar to a folding camper, they are excellent i do a lot of camping thought the year in normal tents and the trailer tent. the beds are excellent in fact it's not like camping at all tis nice and snug sleeping off the ground. just had a weekend away in it two weeks backs, we were camping with 5 other families about 30 of us they were all saying what a cold night it was they were in ordinary tents we didn't notice it in the trailer tent.

hope this helps.....

Make sure you get one that pops up and not the one that splits sideways.

The pop-up is so quick and with an awning is a reasonable size providing there is just the two of you.

My mate has one and he is up and running in about 20 minutes. Trailer tents are larger but take a lot of erecting.

I have a pick-up truck and I really fancy one of those piggy-back types, then I do not have to have a spare vehicle doing nothing when I am not camping. I have seen them quite reasonable on ebay.

We have a Conway trailer tent, and it does take a reasonable bit of erecting, as Ace says.  I've never actually seen a pop up caravan in operation.  I love the 'sleeping on foam mattresses off the ground in bedrooms' part of the trailer tent experience.

What I particularly like about the fact of having the trailer tent is that as a family we carry so much stuff anyway when we go anywhere, we would have needed to buy a trailer for it all.  This way we have most of the stuff we take already packed in the trailer - duvets, pillows, loungers, furniture, kitchen equipment, together with the two-burner/grill, stainless steel sink and drainer stand-alone kitchen which is part of the setup.

We may camp, but we do it in style.  ;D

Thanks for the feed-back, we went to look at a conway cruiser this morning, but it was in a real mess, so will keep looking around. We have taken a gamble on one on e- bay, but I think that we will be outbid, seems too good to be .true. The reason that we are going for a folding camper is speed of erection!!! ;) ;) We also like to camp in style :)
