As some of you were aware, I ran the Shakespeare Marathon today in Stratford-upon-Avon, along with my son Matthew.
I finished in 4h23, my son a shade later. Both of us found the going harder than expected, but the achievement was well worth the effort. It is impossible to describe the private hell on earth that is experienced during an event of this sort, but neither of us regrets having decided to do it. My son is already talking about doing a better performance next year (arghhh !), I guess I will just cheer him on.
Of course, a charity will benefit from our efforts, details in my Signature ...
More information on the marathon event is available at

I would like to thank everyone who has shown confidence in our commitment, and passed good wishes, and hope to post some pictures when I have some strength! At the moment I am relaxing with my feet up and a well earned beer :D
Apologies to anyone in the chat room tonight, as I will be in smug mode ;D
Thank you again!
Edit - my time was mistyped as 4h33
Well done am very impressed. Bet you will sleep well.
...and just think! If you'd gotta treadmill rigged up in front of your PC screen for the last 6 months you'd have (possibly) halved the time :P...
Congratulations and go for it next year (from one who has done the half-marathon - Moon Walk - for BC - half marathon? well, I'm a penshner dontchaknow, have got cancer and anyway, the shops were closed! it was a doddle ;D)....
8) :)
well done. i would be hard put to run to the end of the road! you must be really chuffed. :)
Congratulations - enjoy your beer
Great news, glad to hear you got through it :) Enjoy that beer and have a well-earned rest!
Well done
Congratulations!
Congratulations Curry and a fantastic first timers time. A GREAT achievement. ;D
In a few weeks time you will have forgotten the pain and remember just the thrill of completion. I can assure you, you will want to do it again... (from one with some experience of "I will never do that again", which has reverted to "I would like to do it again..." - both a cross country marathon and the Pennine Way...)
mat
Extremely respectable time - well done!
Puzzled, tho.....why didn't you and your son stay together?
On the Moon Walk we were a group of eight....four US gals and four Brits. The US girls had only arrived the day before & there was a bit of jet lag for a couple, but there was no way we were going to split from them - reckoned they needed all the support (literally!) they could get :D
Thank you for all your compliments and donations etc. If you follow my charity link, you will see the total start to grow now as I get people to cough up !
Alishka, my son and I never ran together because he always ran twice as fast as me! However, despite my own personal exhaustion, I did nip back after I finished to run him in at the end. There was a lot of cameraderie amongst the runners though, we all shared with those running at our own pace.
Licking my wounds now, I have come away relatively unscathed. No blisters, one very sore right nipple (despite globs of vaseline !) and a few damaged toenails (just for Heldi !). And sore muscles of course and a rather inflated ego ..
Well done curry, formidable achievement. I agree with mat - just wait, you might change your mind!
Excellent Curry. Well done to both you and your son. ;D
OOps, confused now :-[.....thought I'd read somewhere that you were running to support him? Sorry.
Still wondering why a slow runner can finish before a fast runner :-\......I know! Bet you had one of your curries before you started.....nothing like a good curry to make one dash for the loo ;D

Well done to you both!
I'm considering doing that run a mile thing on 15th of july :-[ :-[ :D :D considering being the operative word.
Yes, go for it Heldi, you will feel great - afterwards !
I cannit run from me doorstop to the end of the drive though!
Nice and gentle Heldi, you will get there ... :)
First of the pictures - Father and son ...
Second - and me collapsed at the end !
Congratulations to you both
Glad you've still got your trainers on :D
I did want to take them off, believe me (and the socks !) but I still needed to drive 20 miles home, so thought it a good idea to wait until I could put my feet up in a reclining chair ... fearing I would not be able to put them back on ... ;D
And a collage (?) of both of us finishing ...
